Workshop Highlights

  • This intense, comprehensive 4-day workshop will teach you the skills you need to think more critically and solve complex, human-centric problems that cannot be solved by math and science alone.  These are two of the most critical skills you can develop in the age of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning*  (*World Economic Forum, 2016).

  • Root cause subject matter experts and Six Sigma Master Black Belt can take their complex problem-solving skills to the next level.

  • Personnel new to root cause analysis can develop a comprehensive understanding of root cause analysis and apparent cause evaluations.

  • This course will prepare you for certification as a Root Cause Analyst, helping you to become much more valuable to your organization.

Schedule / Class Size

  • The 4-day workshop is focused on experiential learning and was designed with more time for case studies, coaching and mentoring.

  • Case studies of increasing difficulty are provided to help you graduate with a high degree of proficiency: you will be able to apply your new skills the day after you graduate.

  • Classes are usually held over a two week-period, typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The staggered schedule was developed to avoid “Zoom Fatigue” (yes, that’s a new thing).  Our new staggered schedule has been well received by the participants.

  • Class sizes have been reduced to a maximum of 16 participants (down from 20), to provide a better virtual learning environment.

What is Covered in the 4-Day Workshop

  • We define root cause analysis terms and definitions.

  • Using case studies, we practice solving complex, human-centric problems that cannot be solved by math and science alone.

  • We define Critical Thinking and practice using its basic tenants.

  • We define the anatomy of an event and the anatomy of a root causes and practice identifying and validating the deepest-seated causes of events.

  • We practice using BlueDragon's scalable Hyper-integrated Causal Analysis (HCA) for solving problems of any level of significance or complexity (a graded approach).

  • We practice how to use BlueDragon proactively to address negative trends.

  • We practice generating focused, evidence-based Lines of Inquiry, which ultimately determines how effective our analysis will be.

  • We define and practice our roles as a BlueDragon Team Leader or Team Member.

  • We practice how to evaluate human performance, equipment failures and organizational and programmatic breakdowns.

  • We define corrective actions to prevent recurrence and practice mistake-proofing.

  • We practice communicating results to management and regulators.

Virtual Platforms / Requirements

  • We will be using Zoom, with its breakout rooms, to conduct the workshop.  In addition, you will be introduced to Mural, a powerful and easy to use virtual white board.  These two platforms have made it possible to have the same approach we have used successfully in the past; small teams working collectively on case studies, to maximize the learning.

  • The use of Mural, our virtual white board, has made it much easier to conduct assessments, investigations and root cause analysis when we cannot conduct meetings in person.

  • Prior to the start of class, you will be provided pre-workshop instructions on how to use Zoom, and a link to a practice Mural so you can get acquainted with the virtual white board.

  • Because this is an all virtual workshop, participants are required to have a web cam and microphone and be able to access Zoom and Mural through the internet.

  • Internet download speeds greater than 30 Mbps are highly recommended.
